What was a tropical storm has now been upgraded to a Category 1 hurricane, according to media reports released earlier today.

Although less severe than Hurricane Katrina, the sheer size and slow movement of Isaac worries most experts.

Rick Knabb, Director of the National Hurricane Center told reporters he expects the city of New Orleans to see, “[…] a long period of really bad weather.” A large cohort of military troops have moved into New Orleans to help prohibit looting.

Tropical Storm Isaac, already ravishing Dominican Republic and Haiti, is coming to New Orleans, exactly 7 years to the day that Hurricane Katrina struck Louisiana, killing over 1,500 people. President Barack Obama said, “Now is not the time to tempt fate.” and also said, “Now is not the time to dismiss official warnings. You need to take this seriously.” The National Weather Service said that it is expected to be a Category 1 hurricane when it strikes Louisiana. There was no mandatory evacuation in New Orleans.
