21-year-old Jesus joined Manchester City last year in January 2017 from Brazilian club Palmeiras for a reported fee of £27 million. Since then, the Brazilian has featured in 53 matches for the club in all competitions and has scored 24 goals. During his time at the Etihad Stadium the Brazilian has won the Premier League title as well as the Carabao Cup. Internationally, Jesus made his international debut in 2016 and he was part of the Brazilian squad for this year’s FIFA World Cup in Russia but lost to Belgium in the quarter-finals.

After signing the contract extension, Jesus told ManCity.com, “I can say that it was the best decision I’ve made in my life to come to Manchester City because whilst I’m here I’m improving as a professional and as a person. Also thanks to the Club for being so organised and focused since I arrived.”

Manchester City’s footballing director Txiki Begiristain said, “Gabriel is undoubtedly one of the best young forwards in world football, so to have him commit his future to us is a huge boost. There’s so much variety in his game. I know how much Pep [Guardiola, Man City’s manager] enjoys working with him and I am really looking forward to watching his development in the coming years.”

Jesus was part of the Manchester City squad which won the 2018 Community Shield on Sunday, defeating Chelsea 2–0 at the Wembley Stadium.

Digne joined FC Barcelona in 2016, from French capital-club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and since then, the defender has played more than 40 matches for Barcelona. During his tenure at Camp Nou, Digne won one LaLiga title, one Supercopa de España, and two Copa del Rey titles. Prior to playing for the Catalan-club, Digne won two French Ligue 1 titles with PSG. Internationally, Digne has featured in 21 games for France, but he was not a part of last month’s FIFA World Cup in Russia.

After signing the contract with the Liverpool-based club, Digne said, “I want to show my best football here and discover the best league in the world. Everybody loves the Premier League. I am loving the fact I am coming here. I am not afraid, I am excited. For me, it is a new challenge to discover a country, a league, people and a great club such as Everton. It is fabulous.” Everton’s manager Marco Silva said, “It is important to say that he is a player who, from the first moment he was contacted, showed enormous desire to play at Everton”.

FC Barcelona reported Everton was to pay € 20.2 million as well as another 1.5 million in variables for Digne’s transfer. Before signing the Frenchman, Everton signed Richarlison from Watford FC this season.

Yesterday, Swiss footballer Xherdan Shaqiri joined Liverpool FC on a “long-term contract”, the English Premier League club announced via their official website. According to multiple reports, Liverpool exercised the £13 million release clause in his contract with Stoke City.

26-year-old Shaqiri joined Stoke in August 2015 from Italian club Internazionale for a reported fee of £12 million. In three seasons at Stoke City, Shaqiri made 84 league appearances scoring fifteen goals, 92 appearances in all competitions for The Potters. Last season, Stoke City were relegated to the EFL Championship.

Before playing in England, Shaqiri played for FC Basel in Switzerland, Bayern Munich in Germany, as well as for Internazionale. He won six league titles with Basel and Bayern, as well as the UEFA Champions League with Bayern in 2013, defeating Borussia Dortmund in the finals which were then managed by Jürgen Klopp.

Internationally, Shaqiri has scored 21 goals in 74 appearances. In this year’s FIFA World Cup, Shaqiri played all four matches, before losing out to Sweden in the Last 16 knockout phase. He scored one goal in the tournament, a 90th-minute winner against Serbia.

Shaqiri was the third signing of Liverpool this season. Club’s manager Jürgen Klopp said, “I think the English phrase to explain the decision to sign Xherdan is a ‘no-brainer'”. Klopp went on to say, “I know him well from his time in Switzerland and especially Germany — I have been a long-time admirer. But the added bonus now is that he knows the Premier League and what it takes to perform in this uniquely intense environment.”

“He has speed and ability, has the right amount of arrogance on the football pitch, real bravery to want the ball and influence things”, Klopp added.

After signing the contract, Shaqiri said, “As a player, you always want to be on the biggest stage in football. A few years ago I wanted to come too but it didn’t happen. I’m really happy that now I’m finally here. I want to improve myself too, I want to be with the best and I want to win titles. That’s what I’m here for.”

Shaqiri has been allocated jersey number 23. This season, Liverpool has signed Naby Keita from RB Leipzig and Fabinho from AS Monaco.

On Thursday, Spanish football club FC Barcelona announced their first-choice goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, was sold to English club Manchester City F.C. for €18 million on a four-year deal. Manchester City is obliged to pay €2 million as add-ons.

33-year-old Claudio Bravo joined the Catalonians in the 2014 summer transfer window from Real Sociedad to replace Víctor Valdés. Bravo conceded only 43 goals in 75 matches overall, 72 La Liga matches, for the club.

In 2014, Bravo did not concede a single goal in nine consecutive league matches and set a new La Liga record for consecutive minutes without a concession. That season, he conceded only eighteen goals and won the Zamora Trophy awarded to the goalkeeper with the lowest goal-conceded-per-match ratio. He was named in the La Liga Team of the Season.

In two seasons at Camp Nou, Bravo won eight trophies — two La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, and one each of UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Super Copa de España. Last year, Bravo led Chile to their maiden Copa América title and successfully defended the title this year in the Centenario edition of the tournament. He was named Goalkeeper of the Tournament in both tournaments.

After signing Manchester City, Bravo said, “It is not easy to leave a club like Barcelona where I had two fantastic years, but the opportunity to work with Pep Guardiola was too good to refuse.”

Earlier on Thursday, Barcelona announced signing Dutch goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen from AFC Ajax for €13 million.

Bravo faces Barcelona in the Champions League group stage, as the draw on Thursday placed Barcelona and Manchester City both in Group C.

23-year-old midfielder Paul Pogba made his professional debut for United in 2011 after graduating from their academy. He played only seven games before leaving for Juventus the next year. Spending four years with the Old Lady, Pogba has won four Serie A titles, three Italian Super Cups, and two Coppa Italia trophies as well.

Pogba has played 38 games for the French side, netting six goals. Last month he collected a silver medal with the national team finishing runners-up at the UEFA Euro 2016, losing 1–0 to Portugal. This year, Pogba was named in the FIFA FIFPro team of the year as well as the UEFA team of the year.

After signing the five-year contract, Paul Pogba said, “I am delighted to rejoin United. It has always been a club with a special place in my heart and I am looking forward to working with [United manager] José Mourinho.” Mourinho praised Pogba and said Pogba “will be a key part of the United team”.

Yesterday, English football club Sunderland A.F.C. announced David Moyes as the manager of the club after Sam Allardyce vacanted the spot; on Friday the English Football Association appointed Allardyce manager of the English men’s football team.

Allardyce handed national team duty[]

On Friday, the English Football Association announced Sam Allardyce signed a two-year contract as the manager of the English football team after Roy Hodgson stepped down from the post shortly after England’s exit from the UEFA Euro 2016 Last 16 facing a defeat against Iceland.

61-year-old Allardyce signed Sunderland in October and helped the club avoid relegation from the Premier League. The fourth-most experienced manager in the Premier League, Allardyce has won the Manager of the Month award on six occasions. Having managed Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, and West Ham United before joining Sunderland, Allardyce has a win record of more than 33% in the first tier, managing 467 games.

Allardyce helped the Bolton Wanderers earn promotion as their manager and, later, UEFA Europa League qualification.

Signing a two-year contract, Allardyce said, “I am extremely honoured to be appointed England manager especially as it is no secret that this is the role I have always wanted. […] I will do everything I can to help England do well and give our nation the success our fans deserve.”

With the goal of helping England qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Allardyce’s first match as the English football manager is a friendly at Wembley Stadium on September 1.

Moyes to manage Sunderland[]

Following the English FA appointing Allardyce as English team manager, Sunderland signed David Moyes as its manager on a four-year contract.

53-year-old Moyes has won the Manager of the Month award ten times, managing more than 800 matches. Helping Preston North End to win the second division title, Moyes then spent eleven seasons with Everton from 2001. Moyes succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United F.C. manager in 2013.

Signing the contract, Moyes said, “I am delighted to have joined Sunderland. I am relishing the challenge and excited by the opportunity.”

Moyes is to face Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City F.C. next month.
