This season’s Sunshine Coast Rugby Union semi finals are now scheduled to take place at Sunshine Beach and Caloundra, Australia. The venues were settled upon in the final round of play yesterday, incidentally at the same venues and teams.

In Sunshine Beach Noosa defeated University 17–8 in a closer match than the final score suggested. Noosa took an early lead after eleven minutes through an unconverted try.

University took the score to 5–3 seven minutes later. They would take the lead seventeen minutes into the second half and would not relinquish until three minutes left in the game. At this point Noosa rumbled over through a series of about ten rucks.

In their round five clash at Sunshine Beach, University won 15 points to 13. Noosa won the round ten match at the University of the Sunshine Coast by nine points – 24 points to 15.

In the other A-grade game at Caloundra, the hosts defeated Toads 37–8 to host the minor semi final. In round five Caloundra won by eight points, while in round ten the teams played a 14-all draw.

The winner of the major semi goes straight trough to the grand final. The loser plays in the preliminary final against the winner of the minor semi final at a yet-unknown venue.

Toads ended Maroochydore’s chances of making the 2014 Sunshine Coast Rugby Union finals in Cotton Tree, Australia this afternoon. They defeated the reigning premiers 43 points to 12.

A Maroochydore try at 32 minutes suggested a fight back from three tries down but Toads would pile on four tries to one from there. Maroochydore’s finals chances ended at eleven minutes to five local time (0649 UTC) with their final try.

To qualify for the finals, Maroochydore needed to win both of its games and have other results go its way. They play the second-placed University next week in their final game of the season. Toads play Noosa next week and, in a minor semi final preview, Caloundra the week after.

In the weekends other A-grade game, Caloundra defeated Noosa 22–14.

University has defeated Caloundra yesterday in their round 11 Sunshine Coast Rugby Union match at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Sippy Downs, Australia.

Caloundra went 3–0 up at the five minute mark after being awarded a penalty due to University playing the ball in the ruck. University had a chance to even up the scores five minutes later but the ball sailed wide.

The hosts went two points in front at twenty seven minutes scoring a try off the back of a rolling maul. 5–3 University. Caloundra retook the lead five minutes later through another penalty goal. 6–5 Caloundra.

University hit back right off the resulting kickoff scoring their second try, which they converted. This score was at such a pace that the reporter of this article was still transcribing the notes for the previous penalty goal. 12–6 to University.

A third try for the half would see the half time scores at 17 points to 6 in University’s favour.

The second half opened with University forcing a scrum five metres from Caloundra’s try line. This was achieved by making Caloundra ground the ball behind said try line after carrying it over.

The game was held up briefly by back-to-back injury stoppages at about the fifteen minute mark. Caloundra would score their third penalty goal of the game two minutes after play resumed. Their fourth would come five minutes later taking the scores to 17–12 in University’s favour.

University slotted the match’s final penalty goal around five minutes before full time. Final score — University 20, Caloundra 12. In the other A-grade game, Noosa defeated Maroochydore 24–10.

Noosa have retaken top spot on the 2014 Sunshine Coast Rugby Union ladder after beating Caloundra 22 points to 8 in Caloundra, Australia yesterday.

Caloundra opened the scoring six minutes in through a penalty goal. Noosa would even up the scores seven minutes later, and take the lead by the end of the half. 10–3 Noosa at half time.

Caloundra almost scored a try in the first three minutes of the second half but the ball was lost forward by a Noosa player attempting to intercept a pass. Noosa would seemingly shut out the game with a converted try. But Caloundra hit back three minutes later with a try of their own.

They couldn’t capitalise, however, allowing Noosa to score one further try to take the score to 22–8.

In the round’s other game, Toads defeated Maroochydore 31 points to 24. University had a bye.
