Spanish footballer Fernando Torres has signed a one-year contract extension with the capital-based club Atlético Madrid, the club announced on Monday.

Torres joined Atlético Madrid’s academy aged eleven and made his debut appearance for the rojiblancos in 2001. Torres spent six seasons with Atlético, then transferred to Liverpool F.C., then Chelsea FC.

After the signing, 32-year old striker said, “I’m delighted to continue at home, the only place where I ever wanted to be, and it has finally come true.”((es))

Last season, Torres scored twelve goals in all competitions and crossed the landmark of 100 goals for the Atleti. Atlético were third in the La Liga table and faced a defeat in the UEFA Champions League against their city rivals Real Madrid. Torres has won 2010 FIFA World Cup and two UEFA European Championships in 2008 and 2012 with Spain.

Last month, Frenchman Antoine Griezmann signed a contract extension with Atlético Madrid which runs until the end of June 2021.

Yesterday, Spanish capital club Atlético Madrid announced the contract extension of 25-year-old French forward Antoine Griezmann. Griezmann has played for the Rojiblancos for two seasons and now the current contract runs through June 2021.

Griezmann joined Atlético from Real Sociedad in 2014. Since then, the Frenchman has scored 57 goals, including 44 La Liga goals. He was Atlético Madrid’s top scorer for two consecutive years. Last month, he played the UEFA Champions League final against city rivals Real Madrid and scored seven goals in reaching the final.

After the contract extension, Atlético’s sporting director José Luis Caminero praised the Frenchman and said “The club has a solid intention of keeping all its key players and Antoine is one of them”((es)).

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported Griezmann’s release clause will rise to €100 million.
