It has been announced today that former US first lady and Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is to be throughly interviewed “within weeks” as part of an FBI investigation to determine whether or not the use of her personal email accounts to discuss classified information threatened international security relating to the death of US diplomat Chris Stevens in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012.

US diplomat Chris Stevens died of smoke inhalation after an attack by Islamic militants on the US diplomatic compound. Controversy still surrounds the events of his death as Clinton assured the world that Stevens was responsible for the lack of security surrounding him at the time of the attack.

The recent 2015 leak of 2,100 of Clinton’s unclassified emails from her personal account led to accusations of poorly handled security measures after it was discovered that she had been conversing with several high members of the state about the movements and security of Stevens.

Deflecting responsibility for the out-come of these events, Clinton claimed that Stevens’ appeals for further protection, which were consequently refused, were not hers to oversee. This statement came after Clinton personally handpicked Stevens for the job, failed to oversee the security of the diplomat and the compound, and gave away his movements several times through email exchanges via her unsecured personal account.

One exchange read: “Stevens will be meeting with MFA in one hour and will make a written request for better security at the hotel and for better security-related coordination. He still feels comfortable in the hotel. They are looking into the idea of moving into a villa, but that is some way off.” betraying his exact location.

Clinton stated that although she was personally involved in deploying Stevens to Benghazi as the U.S envoy to the Libyan rebels, requests for protection were handled beneath her by trusted security professionals, despite also stating that Stevens had an opportunity to reach her directly any time, after ignoring his pleas of better security via personal email request.

After a trial of more than eight hours in front of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, Clinton walked out of the trial unscathed and without consequence, but within weeks the final investigation will determine whether Clinton will be prosecuted, a decision that will only be made by Attorney-General Loretta Lynch.
