Co-founder of the Greenpeace Foundation, Captain Paul Watson, made a statement on Radio New Zealand this morning, claiming that the organisation has completely betrayed everything it once stood for.

Inuit guides are being encouraged to chaperon wealthy trophy hunters that pay tens of thousands of dollars to shoot polar bears. Greenpeace is saying that it is a good thing in that it is enabling the Inuit to keep their jobs. Watson is accusing Greenpeace of using this as a front to gain favour with the Inuit in return for their support in their campaigns against oil companies.

Despite the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and European Union’s campaigns to ban the trophy hunting of Polar Bears, their efforts are being disrupted by Greenpeace and the World Wildlife Fund, in this latest development. Canadian authorities, scientists and others have claimed that the hunt is sustainable.

Environment Canada reports that out of a 16, 000 bodied population of polar bears, the death toll from the elite shooters will be approximately 300 per year. This translates to roughly 2% of the population. They have asserted that issues with climate change and limited food resources are much more of a concern to polar bears.

Watson stated to Radio New Zealand that Greenpeace was not set up to be concerned with jobs and human issues, but to advocate for the protection of the environment, animals and diversity.

A Sydney, Australia chemical engineering student has been arrested whilst attempting to board a flight to Malaysia on Wednesday, after allegedly receiving A$4.6 million from Australian bank Westpac in the form of an unlimited overdraft.

Instead of informing the bank of the error, Christine Jiaxin Lee, aged 21, went on to spend A$3.3 million on luxury items, including as expensive handbags, and has been charged with knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime and dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.

Lee was granted bail on Thursday by magistrate Lisa Stapleton, who agreed the police would have difficulty proving the spending was illegal because if the money was given to Lee and it wasn’t stolen, she wouldn’t have broken the law. Instead, she’d simply owe the bank the money she spent.

In the process of opening a statement account in August 2012, Westpac accidentally provided Lee with an unlimited overdraft. According to Sergeant Turner, both the bank and the police had made an effort to contact Lee after the investigation began in 2012, but she didn’t return any emails or calls.

In regards to the conditions of the student’s bail, Lee is to report to Ryde police station twice a day, live with her partner in Rhodes and also surrender the emergency passport she applied for just weeks after the warrant for her arrest was issued.

Prosecutor Marc Turner attempted to oppose Lee’s bail based on her application for an emergency passport, yet Fiona McCarron, Lee’s Legal Aid lawyer, said the application was due to Lee losing her passport and flying home to visit her family, who were allegedly unaware of the arrest.

Lee is due back in court in June.

He also spoke about ways to raise middle class income. Clinton also spoke on issues in Flint, Michigan he says,”We need to remember that Flint, Michigan, as heart-rending as it is, is not the only community where children have high lead levels from old, rusty pipes,”.[1]Clinton says his wife, Hillary will make student loans more like mortgage. Bill Clinton also was promoting science, when he said, he had held a 1 billion dollar satellite in his hand, he says his wife will promote jobs in technology.

At the same time the speech was going on there was an anti Hillary Clinton rally (Bernie Sanders). A group made Bernie Sanders campaign gear. They distributed them among any willing protester.

Trump’s likelihood of gaining Republican nomination increases as last rival suspends his campaign

Following Donald Trump’s win ] of the state of Indiana yesterday with 53% of voting, his two biggest competitors for the Republican nomination, Senator Ted Cruz and Governor John Kasich announced they would both be suspending their campaigns.

Cruz, who was originally Trump’s biggest competition and the only candidate that was able to prevent Trump from reaching the 1,237 delegates needed to confirm his nomination, announced he would be suspending his campaign shortly after Trump’s win was announced. Explaining his decision, Senator Cruz stated , he would only continue his campaign if there was a likelihood of winning, which was no longer possible.

Cruz’s departure meant Trump was now the presumptive Republican candidate, but there was still one Republican opponent for Trump, Ohio Governor John Kasich.

However, following Cruz’s departure from the race Kasich was not considered a legitimate threat for Trump as he only had 156 delegates to Cruz’s 572 and Trump’s 1,002. As a result of his lack of support in the race where the only state which supported him was his own home state of Ohio, John Kasich has now announced that he too will be dropping out of the presidential race.

Regarding his own decision to suspend his campaign, Kasich stated that today, “I have renewed faith, deeper faith that the Lord will show me the way forward.”

Now being the leading Republican candidate, Trump’s likely competition will be Democratic candidate Hilary Clinton, who despite losing the Indiana vote is still considered the party’s frontrunner. Clinton currently needs only 21% of votes from the remaining Democratic delegates to secure her own nomination and has already begun to target Trump for the presidency. According to the CNN/ORC Poll which was released before Trump’s Indiana victory, Clinton was already ahead of him in the race with a 54% over 41% lead.

Research also shows that despite Trump’s popularity and growing support, he is still currently behind Clinton who is considered to be more trustworthy regarding issues of Terrorism where she leads 50% to Trump’s 45%. She is also more trusted on the issue of immigration with a 51% lead to 44% but the her biggest support comes with the issues of climate change where 63% of voters trust her over 30% for Trump.

While the race is still far from over, statistics also show voters have a split opinion on Clinton with 49% viewing her favourably and another 49% viewing her unfavourably. This is still however ahead of Trump, who has 56% of voters viewing him unfavourably compared to the 41% who view him positively.

Property Art- finding works of art in your yard

Property Art is an emerging form of art that uses objects you find outdoors ie, rocks, twigs, grass, moss, etc to create works of art. Property artists are hired to come to your home and after a brief meeting about the type of art you like in general-they retreat to the outdoors to gather items that will be used to create your one of a kind piece. Genise Lalos, property artist, describes this art form as, “seeing art in places where the casual observer sees nothing. When you go out to a job you really don’t know what you will find so there is no preconceived notion of what you will be creating. You collect things from the property and then take those back to the studio and wait for the picture to form in your mind. It’s a creative process that really just occurs as you hold the items you have retrieved from the property. The objects will tell you what they want to be. It sounds crazy I know”, Lalos said, “but it’s how the process works”.

“Season’s Tweetings” is an example of Property Art.

There are a number of creative artists today that are re-purposing indoor items and bringing them outside to create unexpected art. Jeff Stafford is one such artist. He advises that anytime you clean out your attic or basement don’t be so quick to discard the items you find as junk. These items may have a whole other purpose in the garden. The concept of Property Art reverses this idea that indoor items may be re purposed outside and brings outside elements into the home. What makes Property Art so unique is that it actually takes items found in your own yard to create artwork for your home.

Polling stations across the United Kingdom have opened as British citizens vote in a number of different, simultaneous elections. Today, dubbed “Super Thursday” by some media outlets, sees local elections in many areas of the country alongside Police and Crime Commissioner elections across England and Wales, while Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are electing their devolved assemblies and parliaments. Today also sees the election of a new mayor of London and Greater London Assembly. There are also by-elections in Sheffield and the Welsh constituency of Ogmore, and mayoral elections in the cities of Bristol, Liverpool and Salford.

Outgoing Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, was elected as a Member of Parliament in last year’s general election and is not standing for re-election as mayor. The front-runners to take the post are Zac Goldsmith of the Conservatives and Labour’s Sadiq Khan. Both have been embroiled in arguments over racism and anti-Semitism which have led to heated exchanges in the House of Commons in recent weeks.

The Scottish National Party will be hoping to maintain their control over the Scottish Parliament, which they have held since 2007. SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon opted to stand for election in the Scottish Parliament rather than the UK Parliament in Westminster; likewise Leanne Wood, leader of Welsh nationalist party Plaid Cymru, is standing for the National Assembly of Wales. That body has been controlled by the Labour Party since 1999.

The Northern Irish assembly has a power-sharing agreement in place, which is likely to continue after today’s election. It means the two largest parties, the Democratic Unionist Party and Sinn Fein, are likely to continue to govern together.

The majority of the results are expected to be declared tomorrow, but the results of the Northern Ireland Assembly elections will not be known until Sunday and some English council elections will be declared on Saturday.
