On Saturday, tens or hundreds of thousands of participants, reportedly, attended the 40th anniversary of the Berlin’s Christopher Street Day celebration. The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride is referred to as CSD in Germany and Switzerland.

This year’s theme of the event was My Body, my Identity, my Life ((de))German language: ‍Mein Körper, meine Identität, mein Leben. The pride parade began at 12 PM at the Kurfürstendamm and finished at the Brandenburger Tor. About 70 cars were registered for the event. After the parade, speeches took place in the evening.

According to the German reports, one fatal incident took place during the parade. A 33-year-old man collapsed and died in the parade, and the police officials suggested an autopsy.

The first Christopher Street Day celebration in the German capital Berlin was organised in June 1979 and reportedly a few hundred people participated in the celebration. A year ago, Germany legalised same-sex marriage. The bill was passed by the German Bundestag on the last day before the parliament’s summer break.

On Friday–Saturday —depending on observer’s timezone— a total lunar eclipse occurred as the Moon was in the shadow of the Earth. As normal during such an eclipse, the Moon became faint and turned completely red as bluer light was scattered by the Earth’s atmosphere. Totality of 1 hour and 43 minutes was the longest in the 21st century.

People were able to observe the eclipse from Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America. A volunteer named José Jiménez uploaded a photo of the incident today from Alt Empordà in Girona, Catalonia, Spain, featuring the Moon, Mars, and the milky way on the same photo.

German astronaut Alexander Gerst took photos of the Moon from the International Space Station and uploaded them to Flickr on the same day.

According to timeanddate.com, the timeline of the eclipse was as follows.

Event Time (UTC)
July 27
Start penumbral eclipse 17:14:47
Start partial eclipse 18:24:27
Start full eclipse 19:30:15
Maximum eclipse 20:21:44
End full eclipse 21:13:11
End partial eclipse 22:19:00
End penumbral eclipse 23:28:38

Mars was also visible near the Moon; coming this week, reported 9News, closer to Earth than at any time since 2003.

On Saturday, hundreds of people reportedly attended the first-ever Transgender Pride in the Irish capital Dublin. Different from last month’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride, this Pride focused on issues concerning transgender people.

Participants advocated for improvements in the healthcare system for transgenders and for action against violence against non-binary people. Reportedly, some also called for separation of church from state. Some participants carried placards which read “Respect my existence or expect my resistance”.

The Pride Parade started at 2 PM, local time, at Liberty Hall and ended at Fairview Park. In 1982, Declan Flynn, a homosexual man, was killed by five men in an attack against gay people at Fairview Park. Cearbhall Turraoin of the Sex Workers Alliance Ireland said, “It’s appropriate that we are here in Fairview Park where Declan Flynn was murdered many years ago, that we talk about hate crime and the impact these hate crimes are having in Ireland […] Three years after the marriage-equality referendum we’re still seeing very high rates of violence.”

According to reports, organisations including National Women’s Council of Ireland and the Green Party supported the event, and organisations including Trans Pride NI, United Against Racism, the Abortion Rights Campaign, and Siptu LGBT Network participated in the march.

One of the Pride organisers, Thomas White, said, “Pride is a protest that celebrates who we are, and our survival against the system. People are still facing huge discrimination and oppression in this world, it’s not something we are willing to accept any longer”.

Another organiser, Ollie Bell, said, “Trans healthcare is underfunded and understaffed. We want to highlight the levels of violence against trans-people and call for victims of such violence to be treated with respect and dignity.”

Ireland passed the gender recognition bill in 2015 allowing people above the age of eighteen to receive an official recognition from the state of their self-identified gender. For non-adults, they required consent from both their parents. In the same year, the country legalised same-sex marriage, and another reform took place two months ago, when a majority of the Irish people voted in favour of repealing the constitutional ban on abortion in the country.

The world’s oldest living person passed away five days ago in Japan. She was 117 years old. Unlike previous deaths of oldest living people, this one had a “detection time.” The detection time of an (often undesirable) event is defined as the age of the event at the time it becomes known to man. This time, no one knew about the death of Chiyo Miyako until four days after it happened. Every previous death of an oldest living person made headlines on either the day itself or the day after it, the date difference being because of the various time zones.

On Monday, social media giant Facebook‘s stock continued to fall for a third business day after last Thursday’s record-setting single-day selloff resulting in a US$120 billion loss of capital. At Monday’s closing bell, Facebook Class A Common Shares went from US$217.50 before the mass selloff to US$171.60.

File footage, from April: Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testifying in front of the United States Congress.

Speculation on lower-than-expected 2nd quarter earnings, slowing in active user accounts, new European privacy laws being enforced, and further investigations into Russian media influences were all being noted by analysts who have downgraded the stock. In all, analysts have changed 28 strong buy ratings to lower level buys, three hold ratings, and two sells.

Downgrading the stock has not affected analyst opinions on the long term prospects. Facebook stock has sustained recent major selloffs when an early 2nd quarter report discussed the degree of Russian infiltration into the social community and when co-founder Mark Zuckerberg testified to the United States Congress after the failure to protect user information discovered during a federal investigation into Cambridge Analytica. Facebook was able to rebound after both selloffs.

Twitter also sustained a major stock hit Thursday. However, the overall sector remains strong according to ratings services like Morningstar. To make up for Thursday’s selloff, Facebook must earn trust with current or prospective users and outperform a competitive business sector, all looking to attract disenfranchised Facebook users. As Facebook recovers, the market sector contains strong competition from Twitter and Instagram.
