Map of Shooting

An alleged shooter identified as James Holmes, 24, shot at audience members at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, late last night during a midnight screening of the film The Dark Knight Rises. At least twelve people have died and 58 others have been injured, ages ranging from a four-month-old baby to a 45-year-old. Among the dead are a six-year-old-girl and aspiring sports reporter Jessica Ghawi, who was also present at a shooting at the Eaton Centre in Toronto several weeks earlier.

Patients from the shooting were taken to various hospitals in the region, including Swedish Medical Center (Colorado) and The Medical Center of Aurora, both operated by HealthONE Colorado, Denver Health Medical Center, University of Colorado Hospital, and Children’s Hospital Colorado.

In the wake of the incident, US president Barack Obama and presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney have suspended their campaign efforts. “There are going to be other days for politics,” said Obama, who was at a scheduled campaign event in Fort Myers, Florida. “We are pulling all ads in Colorado until further notice,” said Andrea Saul, press secretary for the Mitt Romney campaign.

The suspect has reportedly booby-trapped his apartment in Aurora with explosives, resulting in the evacuation of five surrounding buildings. Bomb technicians are attempting to disarm the explosives, according to Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates.
