Sometimes wonderful things develop from energy created by love. That is how the Northeast Concord St Marathon was created. A group of neighbor friends, were enjoying each others company, one summer day back in 2013, in Lees Summit Missouri, in the quite little neighborhood on N.E. Concord Street. The issue came up about familiarizing with all of our new and old neighbors. Someone in that group suggested that it is only about 75 feet from door to door so, we could just go bang on some doors and introduce ourselves. Then it came to Terry White that it seems people like to gather for marathons without knowing each other. And the Northeast Concord St. 0.0228K Marathon was created. Thanks in large part to Jan Oder, Clair Towes, Mary White and Terry White. The Race was such a huge success that all the neighbors decided to continue the event. It was then suggested by Sarah White that it would be great to add usefulness to the event, since there are so many attending, (Around 50 people that first year), to do a fund raiser. So, for the 2014 event, With about 75 people, they collected food for the Harvesters food pantry, (a truck load). But then things got real serious for the 2015 event. The northeast Concord St. 0.0228K Marathon had live music, face painting, games and sold t-shirts with their new logo in every state in the US and 6 different countries all over the world to get the name of Gilda’s Club out to those that needed to know about the great work they do for cancer patients and their families. AND raise $2,200 cash for them. Attendance rose to 125 the year. And they plan on more for 2016
